Care Home in Northern Ireland Celebrates 35th Anniversary by Supporting Local Air Ambulance

Published:

Ratheane Care Home recently marked its 35th anniversary by raising crucial funds for Air Ambulance Northern Ireland, dedicating the event in memory of Candice Tosh. Candice, who tragically passed away at just 15 years old following a road traffic accident, received treatment on-site from the helicopter emergency medical service team. The medical team, including a consultant and paramedic, decided to divert her to The Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, a decision that allowed her family precious time for their final goodbyes and consideration of organ donation.

Candice’s aunt, Jeanette, who is also a staff member at Ratheane, conveyed the family’s gratitude for the support provided by Air Ambulance NI, saying that it had given them the opportunity to say farewell. Additionally, Jeanette reflected on how Candice’s decision to donate her organs, facilitated by Air Ambulance NI, had saved multiple lives in her memory.

Fundraising to Support Air Ambulance Northern Ireland

The Ratheane Care Home management explained their decision to raise funds for the Air Ambulance, sharing that the awareness of the substantial operational costs of keeping the helicopter service active inspired them. Hosting the anniversary fundraiser in Candice’s memory brought comfort and purpose to Jeanette during a difficult time. The event successfully raised £3,400 for the charity, contributing to the service that had made such a meaningful impact on Candice’s family.

Air Ambulance is an Essential Service in Northern Ireland

Air Ambulance Northern Ireland, in partnership with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, operates HEMS, which provides life-saving pre-hospital emergency care across the region. Operating daily for 12 hours, the service can reach any location within the province in approximately 25 minutes. The HEMS team responds to an average of two emergency calls per day, providing critical medical intervention at the scenes of serious road and incidents.
