Medical Flight News from Around the World

Published:

It is that time of the month again when we bring you a round up of what is happening in the world of the medical flight industry. This time around, there were some stories of near-misses and innovations. Of course, like always, medical flight services were around the corner when the need arose. Here are a few of them that we have curated for you.

Medical Flight Faces Bird Scare

Birds can be a menace when medical flights are mid-air. This is precisely the reason why consumption of food is prohibited around the places that see a lot of air ambulances. Food attracts birds and birds can crash into aircraft, giving rise to life-threatening situations.

This time around, it was a medical flight in Derbyshire, Leicestershire, in the United Kingdom. The bird crash caused the windshield of the air ambulance to shatter, and the helicopter suddenly got unstable. The pilot was forced to abandon the mission. Thankfully, no one was hurt. The bird was spotted by the pilot, but it was a little too late to avoid it. The collision caused a mild turbulence in the helicopter. A crew member was hit by the bird but sustained no injuries.

Medical Flights Lands in a Soccer Field

A soccer game was on in full swing in Nottinghamshire when one of the officials suffered a heart condition suddenly. Immediately, a medical flight was summoned. The game had to be stopped to make space for the chopper. The helicopter landed in the middle of the field. It brought along paramedical help along with a defibrillator. The patient was stabilized and flown safely to a hospital.

Turning Passenger Flights into Air Ambulances

Canada has seen its share of the global pandemic. Like many other countries, Canada too is coming up with innovative ways to tackle it. In this regard, passenger aircraft is being transformed into medical flight. The smaller ones are being used for this purpose.
