An air ambulance charity in the United Kingdom has achieved a remarkable fundraising milestone, securing £1 million in just six weeks to purchase a second rescue helicopter outright. This helicopter, which was previously leased by the Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS), will now be owned by the organization. According to David Welch, the Chief Executive of KSS, the acquisition of the helicopter is expected to save nearly £500,000 annually.
Enhanced Operational Capabilities of the Air Ambulance
The new helicopter will significantly enhance the air ambulance charity’s operational capabilities. It will allow them to extend their flying time by six additional hours each day and operate under more challenging weather conditions. These improvements are anticipated to contribute to saving more lives. It was widely acknowledged that the response to the fundraising efforts was “unbelievable,” as it was anticipated that reaching their target might take a bit longer.
Community Support and Future Plans
The fundraiser has not only met but is likely to exceed the £1 million goal. The charity described this achievement as “even more incredible,” reflecting the extraordinary generosity of the community. The organization also acknowledged the numerous messages of gratitude they received, which are believed to be “hundreds and hundreds.” The charity expressed that the support they have experienced has been deeply inspiring, illustrating the community’s compassion.

The funds raised will support KSS’s plans to enhance their patient and family aftercare services and educational programs. Additionally, for a donation of £100 until June 28, individuals have the opportunity to have their name or the name of a loved one displayed on the new helicopter.
