It might have seemed that the COVID-19 pandemic had put a temporary halt on the air ambulance industry, but it turns out that, it was far from true. Looking at the wider air ambulance industry landscape, one quickly realizes that it has been innovations galore. Take for instance the vertical takeoff and landing capability achieved by Urban Aeronautics, an Israel-based company that sold 4 of their vehicles recently to Hatzolah Air, a non-profit in New York.  However, that’s just one of the innovations. The air ambulance industry has also seen developments in the space of drone technology and remotely controllable aircraft. All these have a huge potential to re-imagine the whole industry.

Will Air Ambulance Industry – The Technological Competition

The likes of Uber have been exploring the possibility of flying taxis for a long time. Although it might take several more years for this to become a reality, it must be understood that it will ultimately be achieved. What will such a development do to the air ambulance industry? That is the big question. It cannot be ruled out that patients who are in need of emergency medical transportation will turn towards such services, even though it would be without all the emergency equipment and qualified personnel. It would bring the cost of transportation down drastically while remaining equally quick.

The adaption, however, must be flexible enough to not just adopt technology but also absorb the disruptive changes that may take place. The industry leaders must constantly be on the lookout for them and if needed, be prepared to overhaul the entire functioning of the industry. It must be kept in mind that behind all innovations are improved services and affordability.
