An unusual kind of fundraising event for air ambulances will take place on August 6th in Plymouth; where proud owners of beards and mustaches will come together to see who’s best. The beard and mustache championship is expected to help raise money for air ambulance trusts in Devon and Cornwall. While others run marathons and start bake sales, these residents chose to go the unusual route by holding a championship for beards and mustaches.
Details of the Championship for Air Ambulances
Competitors of the Devon and Cornwall Beard and Mustache Championships will have the option to choose from nine categories. Some of these categories include mustaches, full beards, partial beards, and even freestyle creations. Men with shorter beards or mustaches get to enter in the business-class category. There is even a category for adult and children’s handmade beards and mustaches.
In addition to the facial hair competition, the event will have several stalls selling wares. The Bay’s Brewery charity bar will be set up, where ales will be available at £2.50 a pint, wherein £1 from each sale will be donated to charity. The event will also have a barber station set up by The Blind Pig barbershop, where men can get beard trims and tidy-ups as well as grooming advice. The Devon and Cornwall Beard and Mustache Championships will take place at The Duke of Cornwall Hotel, where attendees can enjoy live music and some entertainment starting from 7pm.
Last Year’s Event Raised Almost 1000
The event is being organized by Clair Wellsbury-Nye, who said that the event was held for the first time last year and they managed to raise almost £1000. Due to popular request, they decided to make the event even bigger this year and raise even more money for air ambulances. They expect somewhere around 200 people to be a part of the event from across the region.
